Morning view from my terrace in Paro, Bhutan

Back to all stories

Every morning, as the sun rises over Paro, I find myself drawn to the terrace of my home, with a cup of tea in hand and a calmness that only this place can bring. The view from here is something I never tire of—mountains stretching as far as the eye can see, their peaks often hidden in a soft veil of mist, and the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery nestled high among the cliffs.

The sight of Tiger’s Nest, or Paro Taktsang as we call it, always feels like a silent guardian watching over the valley. It stands not just as a symbol of Bhutan’s spiritual heart, but also as a reminder of the deep connection between our people and these mountains. No matter the weather or season, this view brings a sense of grounding, a moment of pause in the midst of life’s busy rhythm.

Paro is more than just a place; it’s a feeling. There’s a unique energy that flows through the valley, one that you can almost feel in the breeze that rustles the prayer flags strung above my terrace. These colorful flags carry prayers and mantras into the wind, spreading blessings across the landscape. It’s a tradition that has been part of Bhutanese culture for centuries, a small but powerful gesture that connects us to the spiritual essence of our surroundings.

As I stand here each day, watching the first light touch the peaks, I’m reminded of the quiet beauty that life in Bhutan offers. It’s a beauty that’s not just in the grand views or the famous monasteries, but in the simple, everyday moments—like the scent of pine in the air or the sound of distant bells ringing from the temples.

Living in Bhutan is a journey in itself. It’s about embracing the small things—the warmth of the sun on a crisp morning, the sight of prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, and the unspoken bond between the people and their land. There’s a rhythm to life here that feels unhurried and deeply connected to nature and tradition.

For those of you who have never visited Bhutan, I hope to share a piece of this experience with you through my stories and photos. Whether it’s the changing light over the mountains, the traditions that shape our everyday lives, or the smiles of the people in our small community, I want you to see Bhutan not just as a destination but as a way of life.

As I continue to share my experiences from this beautiful corner of the world, I invite you to join me in exploring the landscapes, the culture, and the heart of Bhutan. There’s so much more to this place than what meets the eye, and I look forward to showing you my Bhutan, one story at a time.

Thank you for visiting Bhutan Stories. My name is Sherab, and I can’t wait to take you on this journey through the valleys, the traditions, and the soul of my country.
